U.S. stock indexes closed mixed Tuesday as investors wait for news about Greece and the results of the latest U.S. Federal Reserve meeting.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up nearly 8 points to 11,409 while the Standard & Poors-500 was down 2 points to 1,202. The technology-laden NASDAQ was off 22 points to 2,590.
European stock prices closed sharply higher.
London's Financial Times index rose 104 points – 2 percent – to close at 5,364. The CAC-40 in Paris closed 44 points higher – 1.5 percent – to 2,984 and Frankfurt's DAX index was up 156 points – nearly 3 percent – to 5,572.
New York gold closed at $1,806.60 an ounce – up $30.20.
The dollar was lower against the yen and euro.
