The Olympic Park Legacy Company has submitted a 5,000 page plan on how the Olympic Park in London can be transformed after the 2012 Games have ended.

Its proposal envisions turning the 64-hectare site for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park development into five neighborhoods. Some 10,000 new homes are to be integrated with new parks, shops and schools. The plan also includes plazas, canal and cycling paths, roof gardens and 29 playgrounds.

London Mayor Boris Johnson says the project is “an important step that will revolutionize the face of East London and provide a lasting legacy for the capital.” He added that it will be “the most important regeneration project that the city has seen in 25 years.”

The submission to the Olympic Delivery Authority's Planning Decisions Team triggers a 28-day consultation period. The Olympic Park Legacy Company is hoping to get the go-ahead for the development before the Games begin on July 27.
