Armed militants in northeastern Afghanistan have detonated explosives in an attempt to blast their way onto a U.S.-run base.
A provincial police spokesman says four suicide bombers targeted the base of the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team in an attack early Saturday morning in Panjshir province.
The spokesman says three of the militants attacked on foot, while the other detonated an explosive-filled vehicle.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left the four militants dead and two security guards wounded.
A NATO spokesman confirmed the incident and said there were no foreign casualties.
