Major Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Thursday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose one percent to finish at 8,701. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was closed due to the threat posed by Typhoon Nesat. Share prices were higher in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Wellington, but lower in Bangkok, Sydney and Shanghai. […]

Japan’s Nikkei Index Closes in Positive Territory

Japanese markets closed higher Thursday, while the U.S. dollar is trading lower against the Japanese yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose one percent to finish at 8,701. The dollar was selling at 76.49 yen, a loss of one-tenth of a yen from Wednesday. Gold is trading at $1,627.10 an ounce.

Japanese markets closed slightly higher Wednesday, while the U.S. dollar is trading lower against the Japanese yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained a fraction of one percent to finish at 8,616. The dollar was selling at 76.49 yen, a loss of more than one-quarter of a yen from Tuesday. Gold is trading at $1,653.38 an ounce.
