Tokyo Stocks Down, Dollar Up

Japanese share prices ended lower Monday, while the dollar rose against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped seven-tenths of a percent to close at 10,070. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.76 yen, up a tenth of a yen from late Friday. The Taipei market fell one percent to close at 8,666.

Massive explosions Monday rocked a naval base in southern Cyprus. The Cyprus News Agency reports at least eight fatalities and scores of injured. It is believed the blast occurred when a munitions dump caught fire. Witnesses report significant damage at the explosion site.
