Tokyo Stocks, Dollar Up

Japanese share prices ended higher Monday, while the dollar rose against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index jumped one-and-one-third percent to close at 9,965. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 77.65 yen, up nine-tenths of a yen from late Friday. The Taipei market gained two-thirds of a percent to close at 8,701.
